When you receive an offer for a domain name we Strongly recommend contacting the bidder with a counter offer via afternic’s contact system. Make it something you are comfortable with but not full price since they would have paid that outright if they had been willing already.
We usually say something like:
“Dear (bidder name), We are excited to get your offer but because of the high demand for this domain name the Reserve is a bit higher at (whatever it is), If you could come up to (#middle ground between their offer and your reserve) We’d be happy to finalize this agreement today!”
This gets you one of 3 Possible responses…
A. No response – Decide if you can live with offer Or NOT.
B. They make you a return offer
C. They accept your offer and the sale is done! This is actually what happens most often for us!
After you and the bidder come to a price you both agree on, the domain name will go into Escrow. Step 1 will be for the Bidder to make payment to Afternic. Afternic then holds the money once it has cleared and You then begin the transfer process of the name to the information the buyer has provided afternic. Wait for Afternic to send you notification that its your turn for this step!
Take the new owners info and login to you domain name Registrar and begin the ownership transfer steps there, once complete return to Afternic and confirm you completed that step. Continue following the steps there.
This process can be VERY fast. We have completed the full process in as few as 3 days with the money landing in our Paypal account that 3rd day. If it’s going slow it’s usually the Buyer not understanding the process and you can contact them via Afternic and give them a Polite nudge. Any contacting the Buyer via Afternic sends the Buyer an email with a copy to Afternic.
